“Every film is like a love that has ended. Whatever it is we're searching for, the destination remains the same: truth.”
Ömer Kavur
ALFA FILM was founded in 1978 by Ömer Kavur, who embraced a cinematic approach defined by narrative depth, visual originality, and a strong emphasis on literary adaptations. The company made a significant contribution to the aesthetic and artistic development of Turkish cinema.
One of its most renowned productions, Anayurt Oteli (Motherland Hotel), was adapted from Yusuf Atılgan’s novel of the same name. It became one of the most profound psychological narratives in Turkish cinema and drew widespread acclaim at international film festivals. Alfa Film’s mastery in blending literary and philosophical storytelling with cinematic language continued with Gizli Yüz (The Secret Face), based on a screenplay by Nobel Prize-winning author Orhan Pamuk. The film delicately explores the boundaries between reality and imagination. Gece Yolculuğu (Night Journey) offered a striking portrayal of a filmmaker’s existential search and his complex relationship with cinema. Kırık Bir Aşk Hikayesi (A Broken Love Story) took its place in film history as a powerful drama dealing with the emotional struggles of individuals in modern society.
Alfa Film also played a pioneering role in bringing Turkish cinema to the international stage. With award-winning productions screened at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, and Venice, the company has earned global recognition and respect.
Although Ömer Kavur’s personal journey in search of love and truth ended with his passing in 2005, Alfa Film—one of Turkey’s oldest production companies—remains active today, still in pursuit of new stories and new loves.
